Starlink satellite internet is bringing high-speed broadband to Appalachia— is it right for you?

We love installing Starlink satellites for our customers in rural and remote areas! 🛰️

Starlink is a revolutionary satellite internet constellation developed by SpaceX with over 2,000 satellites in orbit, providing high-speed broadband internet access to remote and underserved areas across Virginia and beyond.

Over 2,000 Starlink communications satellites enable coverage of 99.6% of households in the US

What is satellite internet exactly? Unlike hardwired internet that receives a signal through a physical cable or fiber to your home (think traditional providers like Verizon and Comcast), satellite internet is a form of fixed wireless internet that links a home internet modem to a satellite in space. Satellite is a solid option where there are few (or zero!) internet providers or where hardwired service is too expensive.

Starlink satellites are purchased in a kit that includes a modem, router, ethernet cable, and basic ground-mount stand. We recommend purchasing a separate eave mount kit to ensure that the satellite is installed as high as possible to avoid potential obstructions like trees or neighboring homes. We position the satellite on the highest eave of the home and rotate it towards the north for maximum satellite visibility. A thin ethernet cable connects the satellite to the modem and router, which should be centrally located in the home for the best signal.

Is satellite internet right for you? If you don’t have access to wired options like DSL, cable, or fiber internet, satellite internet is a great alternative. Wireless internet doesn't always match the speed capabilities of fiber or cable connections, but can be a reliable lifeline when internet access is vital. To test your sky for Starlink, you can use the Starlink App to scan for obstructions and find a suitable location to mount your dish.

Download the Starlink App to test your sky. The in-app compass helps you find the best spot for your satellite. No worries if you don't have a north-facing eave— most mounts can rotate 360° and the Actuated and High Performance models can actually self-adjust to find satellites.
